Nusa Penida has some of the most dramatic coastline in Indonesia, but the island rewards a little planning. Most visitors join a full-day speedboat tour departing from Sanur Harbour.
Getting there
The crossing takes 30-45 minutes by fast boat. Seas are calmest in the morning, so early departures are worth the early alarm.
What to pack
- Motion sickness tablets if you're prone to seasickness
- Cash — card payment is limited outside resorts
- Sturdy shoes for the steep, uneven viewpoint paths
Roads inland are rough, so book a driver rather than self-riding a scooter unless you're experienced.
